It
is only fair to record that the cast applauded their director with enthusiasm at
his curtain call, and that therefore his staging can’t be assumed to have
hampered their impressive singing. NP’s Tosca offered a true spinto range of
expression from lightly floated finesse to zooming firepower.

The

It
would be a shame if this audacious revisionism were to overshadow the
contributions of three outstanding singers [.......] NP’s half- whispered
rendition of Vissi d’Arte is heart stopping

A
tour de force by Opera North. Every human sense was disturbed and rearranged.
Eye, ear and soul were pleasured by this world-class production. NP as Tosca was
magnificent [……] I heard Maria
Callas’ voice again […..] This production of Tosca by Opera North is must
see.

Yorkshire
Evening Post
As
Tosca the Danish soprano NP was outstanding. Here was a voice at the top of its
form, always secure and sensitive. Her aria Vissi d’Arte took its toll on a
few tear ducts.

THE
MAGAZINE
“OPERA”
Nearly everything had its own logic in this Tosca of tomorrow. The performance
werewhite-hot […….] NP is a frighteningly intense actor and has a powerful,
steely soprano; when relaxed, as in Vissi d’Arte, she sings beautifully.

THE
TIMES
Nothing of this would work without a totally committed cast and the conducting
of Steven Sloane, full of momentum and sometimes terrifying tension. NP’s
Tosca [..] has bags of temperament and looks the part as an Italian prima donna.

The

Nina Pavlovski’s Tosca is, despite everything [the production. red] a
gorgeous diva.

The
Independent
.....this is one of the best things Opera North
has ever done.
|
The
Observer
.....the Danish soprano and the American baritone are both
superb - Pavlovski's sotto voce 'Vissi d'arte' is especially moving......

Excellent singing at The Danish
National Opera
----“Each
of the alternating casts has its strong points, but given the choice, one should
hear the so-called first cast - above all because of the soul-shaking interplay
between Nina Pavlovski (Tosca) and Kjeld Christoffersen (Scarpia). She is a find
for the title part.” [---]
“For she has it all: ease and flexibility, dark breadth and brilliantly
coloured heights, melting sweetness and flashing dramatics. With a natural
instinct for musical drama she masters the grand, high-tension phrasings or –
as in ’Vissi d’arte’ – the most refined treatment of detail; she is both
a charming and powerful actress who never lets up, down-to-earth and intensely
alive. A smouldering temperament. One believes her both as a passionate mistress
and a potential killer, believes her piety as well as her hatred. The major
confrontation with Scarpia comes across so frighteningly real that one greedily
devours every nuance.”----

Fantastic Soprano
...........thanks to soprano Nina Pavlovski that
Herning experienced Tosca at its best. She
had a magic evening. Giving herself
fully to both song and play, she delivered a truly impressive performance.
Nina Pavlovski was quite simply stunning....
Nina
Pavlovski has an impressive, almost brittle tone during her great bursts of
passion – as when she scorns Scarpia after having murdered him.
She is also master of the intimate – as in the elegant and intense
second-act aria ”Vissi d’Arte” where her voice crawls right under our
skin.
